New Generations – Independent Indian Filmfestival
30 October to 1 November Kino Orfeos Erben, Frankfurt

New Generations – Independent Indian Filmnight
13 November – Filmclub 813, Köln

From 30 October to 1 November 2015 the seventh „New Generations – Independent Indian Film Festival” will bring current highlights of the new Indian independent cinema to Frankfurt. The new Indian cinema stays exciting, adventurous and volatile like the country itself, giving the audience a more real picture of India that is both complex and diverse.

New Generations has the great honour to host the Frankfurt premier of Dheepan by Jacques Audiard, winner of the Palme d’or in Cannes 2015. Dheepan explores the life of refugees from Sri Lanka in Paris. The eminent Keralese director Dr. Biju will present the European premier of his new feature film Perariyathavar (Names Unknown) in person. In the documentary India’s Daugher filmmaker Leslee Udwin examines the society and values of India after a 23-year-old medical student is raped and murdered on a bus, co-producer Riddhi Jha will present the screening in person. Court is India’s official entry to the Oscars 2016. The first New Generations Short Film Wallah-Award will be granted to one of the German short film premiers. The neo-noir Thriller Sunrise (Arunoday) deals in a surrealistic manner with child abduction.

The festival is funded by Hessische Filmförderung, Kulturamt der Stadt Frankfurt and Amt für Multikulturelle Angelegenheiten.
