Mira Nair's "The Namesake" and more

When the Indian director Mira Nair read Jhumpa Lahiri’s first full length novel “The Namesake” she knew immediately, that this would be her next movie. She turned the novel into a sensitive immigrant’s drama, atmospherically underlined by Nitin Sawhney’s beautifull soundtrack. We will tell you more about the film and will hold a little competition where you can win Jhumpa Lahiri’s book or tickets for the movie. We will review an interesting event around the subject “India and globalisation”. Probably we will have a guest in our studio - a longtime listener of our radio show, who now lives and works in India.

Tune in and win!

Film festival „ueber arbeiten“ – „about working“

What has you cup of coffee for breakfast to do with the living conditions in Africa? Why do US-American customers call Indian call centers? How much work was necessary to make your jeans “Made in China”? Questions like that like these will be the subject of the film festival „ueber arbeiten“ – „about working“ with eleven documentary films revolving around the issues globalisation, wok and economy. Also “John & Jane” by Indian director Ashim Ahluwalia is part of this interesting package. Ashim was our guest at the 1st International Conference Call Center India last year and that is our connection to the festival.

Other films portray textile workers in China, unemployed young people in Germany with no perspective but also the backgrounds of the Enron scandal. “Aktion Mensch” puts the film package on a tour through 80 German cities, coming to Frankfurt from 15 to 21 February 2007. Attac frames the films with a cultural programme and various discussions, involving local NGOs. We present the rich programme in this broadcast, please also check www.ueber-arbeiten.de
